Soroti City, Uganda – Continuing its mission to uplift vulnerable communities, Action of Love International, a non-profit organization based in Soroti City, has remained steadfast in delivering essential medical support to beneficiaries living with disabilities across the Teso sub-region and beyond.
Recognizing the urgent need for accessible healthcare among underprivileged populations, the organization has initiated various programs to enhance the health and well-being of its beneficiaries. These efforts range from direct medical interventions to facilitating access to healthcare services in local hospitals and clinics.
A key highlight of the organization’s healthcare efforts has been its provision of free medical services. During these sessions, beneficiaries receive health screenings, basic treatments, and consultations with healthcare professionals.
Nutritional counseling and treatment for common illnesses affecting persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Uganda are also offered, ensuring a comprehensive approach to healthcare.
This year alone, over 100 beneficiaries received care at Bethesda Hospital in Soroti. Many, who had silently endured treatable conditions, expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention.
Understanding the unique challenges faced by PWDs, Action of Love International has placed their medical needs at the forefront. The organization collaborates with medical experts to provide assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, tricycles, and crutches, enabling beneficiaries to lead more independent and dignified lives. Additionally, rehabilitation services and therapy sessions are organized for individuals requiring long-term care.
One of the beneficiaries, Samuel Okwii, shared his experience: “I had been struggling with mobility issues for years due to a spinal injury. Thanks to Action of Love International, I now have a wheelchair and can move around comfortably. They have truly given me a new lease on life.”
The organization has also introduced a program to supply essential medications to beneficiaries who cannot afford them. This includes treatments for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and epilepsy. In cases of medical emergencies, Action of Love partners with local health facilities to ensure beneficiaries receive timely and adequate care.
In one notable instance, the organization facilitated emergency surgery for a young beneficiary facing a life-threatening condition. The procedure was successful, and the child is now on the path to recovery.
Beyond direct medical assistance, Action of Love International advocates for improved healthcare services for marginalized communities. Public health education campaigns are regularly conducted to promote awareness about preventive healthcare, hygiene, and nutrition, empowering communities to take control of their well-being.
Speaking during a recent media briefing, Jefferson Kandi, the CEO of Action of Love International, emphasized the importance of the organization’s healthcare initiatives. “Healthcare is a fundamental right, but many in our communities face barriers to accessing it due to financial or logistical challenges. With the support of our donors and partners, we are bridging this gap and ensuring our beneficiaries live healthier, happier lives. We also have plans to establish a rehabilitation center to provide comprehensive support, and we are counting on continued donor support to make this a reality,” he said.
Kandi also urged the public and other organizations to join the cause, stressing that collective efforts are essential to addressing the healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable populations.
Through its medical programs, Action of Love International continues to positively impact the lives of its beneficiaries. The organization’s unwavering dedication to improving health outcomes exemplifies its core mission of spreading love and hope to those who need it most.
