SOROTI – In a heartfelt display of compassion, Action of Love International, a Soroti City-based non-profit organization, has brought joy and relief to persons living with disabilities across the Teso sub-region during this festive season.
Through its thoughtful donations of essential items, the organization has illuminated the lives of some of the region’s most vulnerable individuals, reaffirming the transformative power of love and generosity.
The donations, which included staples like sugar, soap, rice, posho, and special items such as mattresses, blankets, and soft drinks, were warmly embraced by the beneficiaries. For many of them, these gifts not only ease the burden of daily survival but also bring the promise of a dignified and joyous festive season.
Among the beneficiaries was Amongin Suzan from Pingire County in Serere District, whose eight-year-old daughter, Namaganga Magreat, received much-needed support. With tears of gratitude, Suzan shared, “I appreciate the organization for their kind support. I was initially living in a difficult state, but with the items I have received, I am beyond grateful. We can now celebrate the festive season with love.”
Hellen Imojot, another mother to a beneficiary, expressed similar sentiments, her voice filled with emotion. “My child has never received such support before from anyone. This gesture from the organization means everything to us,” she said.
Speaking during the event, Jefferson Kandi, the CEO of Action of Love International, emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left out during the festive season.
“As an organization, we felt we couldn’t celebrate the festive season alone while knowing our beneficiaries wouldn’t have a chance to celebrate it. We used this day as a moment of sharing and showing love together as a family,” Kandi said.
He spoke candidly about the dire conditions faced by many of the beneficiaries, revealing that some lacked basic necessities like proper bedding. “During our visits, we noticed that some persons with disabilities sleep on mats or have no bedding at all. This inspired us to provide not only food but also mattresses and blankets, ensuring they can rest comfortably and celebrate with joy.”
While 33 beneficiaries received the donations during this event, Kandi acknowledged that the organization had aimed to support over 50 individuals. He assured the public that follow-ups would be made to ensure all identified beneficiaries receive their packages.
In his address, Kandi called on society to extend its love and support to persons living with disabilities, emphasizing their long history of neglect and abandonment. “They need love, care, and support from those who are in a position to stand by them. Together, we can bring about meaningful change,” he urged.
He also expressed gratitude to the organization’s donors, whose contributions made the initiative possible. “We are deeply thankful for the incredible support from our donors. This donation not only provides relief to the beneficiaries but also puts smiles on their faces and renews their hopes for the future,” Kandi added.
Action of Love International’s festive initiative is a powerful reminder of the difference that compassion and generosity can make. By addressing the immediate needs of persons with disabilities and fostering a sense of community and belonging, the organization has given these individuals a reason to celebrate.
Operating across the Teso sub-region, Action of Love International is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged communities through programs that enhance education, health, and socio-economic welfare. As the festive season continues, the organization urges others to embrace the spirit of giving and join in making a lasting impact on the lives of the less fortunate.
For the beneficiaries, this initiative represents not just a moment of relief but a beacon of hope for a brighter, more inclusive future. Through their heartfelt expressions of gratitude, they remind us all of the profound joy that comes from giving.
